Centre Stage at City Hall (13450 104 Ave.) is doubling down on comedy.

Two upcoming shows include classic stand-up with Laughs from the Past, Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. and Comedy Unscripted: Improv with a Twist with icons of improv Vancouver TheatreSports League on Nov. 4 at 8 p.m.

Laughs from the Past on Saturday pays homage to the variety shows of yesteryear featuring the ground-breaking queen of the eccentric stage persona “Phyllis Diller” with her self-deprecating humour, wild hair, crazy clothes, and unmistakeable laugh.

Joining “Phyllis” are other celebrity impersonators “Carol Burnett” and “Lucille Ball” in hilarious sketches. Local comics round out the cast, including 77 year old Margo Prentice with her soft white hair and razor sharp wit.

The World-famous Vancouver TheatreSports League show on Nov. 4 offers quick wit of the improvisers instantly transforms ideas from the audience into reality with uproarious results.

Boasting six International Improv Comedy Awards, this pillar of the Vancouver comedy scene, produces some of the most daring and innovative improv anywhere. The style is a highly theatrical fusion of the dramatic elements of comedy and tragedy coupled with the enthusiasm and edge-of-your-seat excitement of professional sport.

Tickets are $20-30, including all fees. For advance tickets, call 604-501-5566 or visit tickets.surrey.ca. Tickets will also be available at the door.
