A local band heavily inspired by the sounds of the 1920s and '30s will be kicking off the live performances anticipated for White Rock Sea Festival and Semiahmoo Days.
Taking the stage at noon, Alexander Browne and his Boulevardiers will open the performances. The eight-piece band is the first of several taking listeners through the decades in music in White Rock. From the 1900s all the way to present day, the group will take the stage at P'Quals Memorial Park next to the White Rock Museum and Archives at west beach on Saturday, Aug. 3.
"We're very happy to back at Sea Festival after a long absence," said Browne, also a longtime reporter at Peace Arch News.
"And particularly delighted that we'll be playing a stone's throw from the original location of White Rock's legendary Blue Moon Dance Pavilion, which operated from 1927 until 1943."
Also a theatre actor and director, Browne's band is known for providing authentic sounds and performances of dance band music ranging from 1923 to 1933, from the original arrangements.
The remaining lineup for Sea Festival is yet to be announced, taking place along White Rock's waterfront from Friday, Aug. 2 to Sunday, Aug. 4 for free performances, family fun and much more in store.
