CONTACT 2013 brings Kaskade, Skrillex to Vancouver, lights up BC Place

Why is the rim of BC Place all aglow? And what's the noise coming from inside? It appears electronic has made CONTACT with Vancouver...

Strobe lights

Techno and turntables have descended upon Vancouver, beginning with last night’s CONTACT music festival at BC Place and continuing tonight – Friday – with the concert’s second showing.

Thursday night welcomed artists Sleepy Tom, Cashmere Cat, Baauer (photo above), Diplo, Dada Life, and Skrillex.

On Friday, thousands will vibe through tunes from Mak J, RL Grime, Flosstradamus, Dirty South, and Kaskade.

This year’s festival marks CONTACT’s second in Vancouver, after the 2012 edition which featured international Canadian all-star Deadmau5 and hosted an audience of 12,000. Last night, the official CONTACT after-party was held at Vancouver’s Commodore Ballroom, on Granville Street.

Prior to this year’s festival, Blueprint Events estimated CONTACTED 2013 would become the largest ever indoor festival to occur in Western Canada, according to the group’s press release.

“Last year’s CONTACT was a groundbreaking event for us – the first time hosting a major electronic dance show at BC Place, and the first time hosting an event of that magnitude – and we were so thrilled to see it culminate to a sold-out demand,” said Alvaro Prol, co-founder of Blueprint.

“It has always been a goal of ours to host multi-day music events, and due to the overwhelming success of last year’s CONTACT festival, it signaled to us that the time is right to finally grow to host a two-day event. And with access to BC Place’s exciting, state of the art venue, and some of the biggest names in electronic music on board, we know that CONTACT 2013 is going to be even more epic than any dance festival we’ve ever hosted and the best party in BC, in 2013.”
