Flute and piano unite

Duo featured in weekend Surrey concert; part of ongoing Moment Musicale series.

Pianist Kenneth Broadway and flutist Mark McGregor perform in Surrey on Saturday (Jan. 26).

A piano and flute pairing is performing in Surrey this weekend – a continuation of the Moment Musicale classical concert series that began last fall.

Coming to the stage Saturday are flutist Mark McGregor and pianist Kenneth Broadway.

McGregor is currently principal flute of the Aventa Ensemble in Victoria and one-half of the Vancouver-based Tiresias Due with Rachel Kiyo Iwaasa. His discography includes Delicate Fires with Tiresias, which was nominated for a 2008 Western Canadian Music Award (WCMA), and his 2009 solo CD, Different Stones: Canadian Music for Multiple Flutes, which was nominated for a 2010 WCMA.

Broadway is most recognized for his duet work with pianist Ralph Markham. The pair performed throughout Europe and North America. He also have extensive chamber music experience and has numerous performances and recordings to his credit.

The Saturday (Jan. 26) concert, which takes place at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 10177 148 St., will include a broad range of repertoire, including pieces by Bach, Schubert, Strauss, Ravel, and more.

The 2012-2013 Moment Musicale Series began in September with a baroque and classical performance featuring several soloists, and will continue in March with a violin concert by Jeanette Bernal-Singh.
