SURREY — Showtime Australia brings its acclaimed Michael Jackson: HIStory show to Surrey this summer.
The musical tribute to the King of Pop, billed as “a full-scale stage production,” will play Bell Performing Arts Centre on Friday, July 21.
South African singer/dancer Dantanio stars in the show, which features a live band, choreographed dancers, state-of-the-art sound and theatrical lighting, vision and effects.
The show charts Jackson’s “creative genius and unsurpassed talent with riveting live performances spanning his early days as a member of the Jackson 5, his groundbreaking theatrics in the ’80s and his continued domination of Pop culture into the 21st century.”
Director Johnny Van Grinsven auditioned impersonators from around the world until he found his thriller in Dantanio.
‘There’s no hiding with MJ,” Van Grinsven explained. “If you don’t do it right, fans pick it up instantly and they are not forgiving. But Dantanio is such a talented performer and impressionist that the only reaction we’ve had so far has been complete awe, people just can’t believe how real he is, how well he does it.”
A bunch of Jackson’s many hits are featured – “Thriller,” “Billie Jean,” “Smooth Criminal,” “Beat It,” “ABC” and more.
