The Delta Photo Club held its third annual Photo Inspirations event on Saturday, offering avid photographers from Delta and throughout the Lower Mainland the opportunity to enter a print competition, partake in seminars, and talk shop.
Tsawwassen's Karoline Cullen won the Open Colour category for a candle-lit wine and cheese still, while David Friederich earned first place in both the Monochrome and Nature categories for his wildlife shots.
Cullen was recently profiled in the Face to Face feature of the March 22 issue of the South Delta Leader.
The club used to host an internal print competition but three years ago local members Sharon Wright, Rhoda Brooks and Francois Cleroux decided to try something a little different. The result is a full-day event with seminars teaching things like photo finishing and editing, shooting sports and birds, as well as the business side of photography.
"There's tons of different specialties and it's a really easy-going club," said Brooks, who photographs children professionally.
Because the club has a wide range of photographers with different skill levels and interests, it's a great way to learn techniques, she added.
For those who are shy about joining a photography club because they're new to the hobby, Wright says there's no need to worry about being judged.
"You don't have to share your images just because you belong to a photo club," she said, adding some members don't feel comfortable showing anybody their photos until they've been shooting for years.
