Jim Byrnes and Babe Gurr will be together in concert at the Surrey Arts Centre Nov. 22.

There's nothing more powerful than a good song, and nobody knows that better than legendary blues singer and guitarist Jim Byrnes.

On his new album, I Hear the Wind in the Wires, the smoky-voiced Byrnes reaches back to the golden age of country music – think Buck Owens, Ray Price, Hank Williams, Marty Robbins – and sings about lawlessness and tender love, recklessness and yearning, and tough as nails characters with sentimental flaws.

Byrnes will sing from a playlist of fan favourites as well as selections from his newest release when he performs at the Surrey Arts Centre (13750 88 Ave.) Nov. 22 at 8 p.m.

Special guest Babe Gurr opens the show with songs from her most recent release, SideDish, which explores world music fused with her own unique roots style and writing.

Byrnes and Gurr received a warm welcome at their sold-out concert in Surrey in 2011.

Tickets are $29/35, available at https://tickets.surrey.ca or by calling 604-501-5566.
