A new exhibit in the courtyard of Surrey Arts Centre – on display until October – is a dynamic demonstration of the potential of large-scale ceramic artwork.

Monumental Sculptures, a show by master clay artist Keith Rice-Jones, features five pieces – two from the artist's "geometric" series and three from his "organic" series – ranging in height from just over one metre to nearly two metres.

Originally trained as a woodworker in his native England, Rice-Jones turned to clay  in the 1970s and has since amassed an extensive exhibition history in B.C., as well as Britain and Japan, and was honoured with a major retrospective at Coquitlam's Evergreen Cultural Centre in 2013 and a residency at the Stuart Craft Centre in Mittagong, Australia.
