The upcoming Salmon Sessions Music Festival at Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club is a don't-miss entertainment event on several scores.
Daniel Wesley will headline a stellar entertainment lineup of five internationally noted acts in the festival, which runs from 4 to 11 p.m. Aug. 24 at the club (1284 184 St.).
Also on the bill for the family-friendly event are Camaro '67, Brass Camel, pop duo Fionn, and country sensation Antonio Larosa.
Purchasing tickets online (available now) is also an opportunity to learn about and contribute to the building of a new Little Campbell Salmon Hatchery, continuing the SFGC's essential efforts to protect the eco-system and protect the security of B.C.'s food chain.
"We have some wonderful sponsors who have made the entertainment possible," said Dione Costanzo of Penmar Community Arts Society, which is partnering with the SFGC to present the festival for a second year running.
"But it's the ticket revenues that are going to support the Little Campbell Salmon Hatchery's urgent need for a new building."
Costanzo said she's thrilled with the coup of signing Wesley – whose distinctive laid-back, catchy fusion of rock, reggae and folk has proven to have lasting appeal – for the festival.
"We're particularly pleased to have him as our headliner – he's originally from the White Rock area, and he's very well-known here," she noted.
Additional local appeal is present with Fionn – multi-talented sisters Brianne and Alanna Finn-Morris, who grew up on the Semiahmoo Peninsula and continue to attract attention with their melodic, authentic songwriting – as well as steady local airplay for their latest album, I Might Start Smoking.
Camaro '67 is a 10-piece Vancouver-based band noted for its funky retro-rock, garage-rock and blues-inspired groove and energetic performances; while Brass Camel, fronted by Surrey's Daniel Sveinson, is fresh off a cross-country tour showcasing their high-energy fusion of danceable rhythm and powerhouse brass.
Larosa, winner of the Roots/Canadiana Artist of the Year honours at the 2023 BC Country Music Awards, will combine his soulful vocals and powerful stage presence with the backup energy of his his full country-rock band.
There will also be plenty of food available for purchase on-site plus a beverage garden featuring a variety of beers, wines and ready-to-drink cocktail options plus non-alcoholic options.
Visitors can relax on the concert lawn next to the Little Campbell River, or take guided tours of the hatchery facilities in which SFGC's dedicated volunteers will happily share insights into their crucial conservation efforts.
