One of the largest Earth Day events in B.C. is coming back for its fourth year, with JUNO Award-winning band Said the Whale headlining the all-ages event.
Surrey’s free Party for the Planet will take place on April 26 during the grand opening of the new Surrey City Hall and will also feature performances by Andrew Allen, Dear Rouge, Jeremy Fisher, Jordan Klassen and Praise Team.
For the kids, there will be performances by Rockin’ Robin and Bobs & Lolo, as well as demonstrations by Mad Science and a chance to meet Dora the Explorer.
Last year’s event was attended by more than 20,000 people.
Green organizations and attractions will include a sustainability house, a birds of prey demonstration and the BC Chicken Growers Poultry in Motion Educational Mini Barn.
“It is fitting to officially open our new city hall during Party for the Planet given the building has many unique sustainability features and has been purpose-built to provide community services, amenities and a gathering space for generations to come,” said Mayor Dianne Watts.
Said the Whale has had a string of radio successes with albums Islands Disappear and Little Mountain. Andrew Allen has had three top-10 hits, including his single “Loving You Tonight,” while 2012 Peak Performance Project winners Dear Rouge’s new single, “I Heard I had” is in the top five on Canadian alternative rock charts.
