SURREY — Young singers, it’s your time to shine during the BC Junior Talent Search.

Teen and preteen performers are sought for the ninth annual talent contest, which kicks off with two rounds of open auditions at Central City Shopping Centre, first on Saturday, April 26 and again on Friday, May 9.

Contest semi-finals will be held May 15, followed by a showcase May 16 and finals on Monday, May 19 at Cloverdale Rodeo & Country Fair.

A number of valuable music-related prizes are up for grabs.

Contestants must be between age seven and 18. The fee to enter is $35; to get involved, email Margot of the Now at magauley@shaw.ca or call 604-340-3733.

Last year, Tyson Venegas, then age 7, of Port Moody, and Jenny Kalicharan, then 14, of Surrey, were crowned winners of the contest. Tyson sang “Route 66” to win the preteen category, while Jenny belted out Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” for the teen title. Avery Amores and Jasmine Stacey placed second and third, respectively, in the preteen category, while Hannah Poulton (second) and Manuela Cobaleda Gutierrez (third) rounded out the teen category.
