SURREY — More details about the city’s big Canada Day party were announced Wednesday (May 3).

Pop band Hedley will headline the event’s concert stage on July 1, as most people know by now, with support from reggae-fusion band Magic!, Chilliwack, Good For Grapes, One More Girl, DJ Flipout and others.

The annual event will celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday at Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre in Cloverdale.

New this year is a free zip line, along with a “Canada 150” zone featuring a pavilion showcasing the country’s indigenous heritage and Francophone communities.

Amusement rides, 100-plus exhibitors, a Kids World, sports zone and trampoline performers are also featured at the day-long event, which is capped by an annual fireworks display by GFA Pyro, a Montreal-based company.

Presented by Coast Capital Savings, this year’s family-friendly celebration is billed as the largest Canada Day event in Western Canada, with attendance expected to surpass 100,000 people.

“We are proud to offer the ultimate free party to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday and to showcase a diverse lineup of Canadian talent,” stated Surrey Mayor Linda Hepner.

The event site is located at 176th Street and 64th Avenue, Surrey. More details are posted at Surrey.ca/canadaday.
