SURREY — Vancouver Island-based singer Ken Lavigne retells his personal campaign to sing with the New York Pops in a concert coming to Surrey next week.

"The Road to Carnegie Hall" was an eventful one for the tenor, who sings ballads, show tunes and classical crossover hits in the style of Andrea Bocelli and Josh Groban.

Lavigne and his fourpiece band bring the touring show to Surrey Arts Centre on Saturday, Feb. 15. Tickets and info are at tickets.surrey. ca, or call 604-501-5566.

In a mix of songs and stories, the show "embodies the spirit of the underdog - audacity, tenacity, tragedy and, ultimately, triumph."
