1. Surrey’s Sounds of Summer concert series kicks off tonight (Wednesday) with a performance by Deanna Knight & the Hot Club of Mars at Holland Park, starting at 6:30 p.m. – but come at 5 p.m. for some “Canada 150” festivities. Patrons are encouraged to bring lawnchairs and/or blankets to the series of 13 casual concerts, which continue on Wednesday, July 5 with the classical strings of Armadillo String Quartet at beautiful Glades Garden Park in South Surrey. For more details (including the full schedule of concerts), call 604-501-5050 or visit surrey.ca/culture-recreation/13488.aspx.

2. From seed workshops to woodstove baking, South Surrey’s Historic Stewart Farm offers some unique programs for adults. Next on the calendar is a “Charle Chaplin Night” on Thursday (June 29, 6:30 p.m.), when the actor’s 1925 film The Gold Rush will be screened for a 13-and-over crowd – not exactly “adult,” but you get the picture. Whatever the age range, admission is free and popcorn will be available. Call 604-592-6956 to register, or visit surrey.ca/culture-recreation/2881.aspx for more details.

3. Several golf courses in Surrey play host to Canucks Junior Golf Week events from July 2 to 9, when more than 40 single-day camps will be held across B.C. that week, for kids aged five to 18. The first camp in Surrey will be held on Wednesday, July 5 at Birdies & Buckets Family Golf Centre (a 1 p.m. start), with others happening at Morgan Creek Golf Course, Northview Golf Academy and Eaglequest Coyote Creek. The fee is $20 plus GST, and a post at canucks.com/golfweek notes this: “Due to conflicting off-season schedules, unfortunately there will be no scheduled on site appearances of Vancouver Canucks players or management during Canucks Junior Golf Week.”
