The band Chilliwack kicks off the TD Concerts at the Pier series in White Rock.

1 Before Surrey Museum closes at month’s end for a big renovation project, check out “What We Bring,” an exhibit that showcases Surrey’s stories of immigration with a display of what people brought with them from their original homelands. Featured is a set of bird “stuffies” from New Zealand. When pressed, the sound of the actual bird can be heard. The story goes that the donor doesn’t let people press on the birds often, because he is worried the irreplaceable batteries sewn in will wear out. “This story moved me,” Colleen Sharpe, the museum’s curator of exhibits, stated in May when the exhibit opened. “It shows how memory is associated with all the senses. For this man, sound represents a piece of his home. I think this exhibit will encourage people to look within themselves and think about what they would bring if they moved away.”

2 In White Rock, the third annual TD Concerts at the Pier series will feature six shows, starting on Thursday evening (July 6, 6 to 10 p.m.) with a performance by Chilliwack on the Marine Drive waterfront. Admission is free at all concerts in the series, an initiative of White Rock Business Improvement Association in partnership with TD Canada Trust, the City of White Rock and REMAX real estate company. The series will close on Saturday, Aug. 19 with music by fellow Canadian band Platinum Blonde. For the rest of the schedule, visit whiterockbia.com/concerts-at-the-pier.

3 Starting on Thursday evening (July 6), Page Theatre brings Beyond Therapy to Coast Capital Playhouse for a three-week run, in a co-pro with White Rock Players Club. Christopher Durang’s Broadway hit, set in 1980, features the characters Bruce and Prudence, both deeply in need of therapy. Prudence’s macho therapist urges her to be more assertive while Bruce’s wacky female therapist wants him to meet women by placing personal ads. With some twists, the laughs continue until July 22, and the show comes with a warning for simulated gun noise and strong language.
