Truck show returns to Cloverdale Fairgrounds in July

Event serves to educate and entertain and raise much-needed funds

Vintage truck enthusiasts should circle July 5 on their calendars.

That when the B.C. Vintage Truck Museum will host its annual National Truck Show. The museum brings in many vehicles for the occasion, which they park outside their building on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds.

In years past, the museum has had more than 50 extra vehicles on display.

While the truck show takes place outside the B.C. Vintage Truck Museum, the museum will also be open for self-guided tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day, showcasing the museum's many vintage vehicles and thousands upon thousands of items of memorabilia.

Anna Dean, museum president, said they’ll have a lot of trucks and other vehicles on hand. She said the show serves multiple purposes, to educate and entertain the public about transportation history and to raise much needed funds for the volunteer-run museum.

“We’ll have big rigs, not just vintage ones,” she said. “We usually get quite a few if the weather is good.”

Dean revealed the museum has been gifted an old milk truck from a museum in North Van. She said everyone's pretty excited about getting it over to Cloverdale because it's in great shape and has a lot of history attached to it.

“It was a delivery truck for Jersey Milk and they delivered mostly in North Vancouver,” she noted. “It's a really interesting story and the truck has good history. They kept it inside after spending almost $80,000 to restore it.”

Dean added the milk truck will make its Cloverdale debut at the July truck show.

Other exhibits for the show will include rare vehicles from private owners around B.C.

There will also be a “Show and Shine” portion of the truck show in which truck enthusiasts can bring down their own vehicles (cars too) to be a part of the show. Entry fee is $10 and registration forms can be found on bctruckmuseum.org (scroll down to "Show and Shine” and click on the “pre-register” button).

The National Truck Show will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 5. At the same time, the B.C. Hot Rod Association will host its “Hot Rod Saturday” event across the parking lot adjacent to Elements Casino.

The B.C. Vintage Truck Museum is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The museum is located on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds at 6022 176th Street. Admission is by donation. Visit bctruckmuseum.org for more info.
