The Cloverdale Curling Club is celebrating 70 years. To mark the milestone, the club is hosting an open-house event in October.
Started in 1954 as Valley Curling Club, the club has enjoyed seven decades of offering organized curling to Cloverdalians and residents of the lower Fraser Valley.
Tracy Walkley, committee member for the club’s 70th celebration, said the club is “excited” to welcome everyone to the rink for their open house event on Sunday, Oct. 6, which they are calling “Our House is Your House.”
“As a community-oriented organization, we aim to promote curling in our area and invite local residents to explore the sport,” Walkley said.
The open house will be held at the Cloverdale Curling Rink on the Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Visitors will be able to try their hand at curling on the ice. There will be an opportunity to win one of several turkeys on an “inflatable sheet.” Event-goers will also be able to sign up for a free “Learn to Curl” lesson.
The curling lounge will be open and there will be curling memorabilia on display from the club’s 70-year history.
Walkley added the whole community is welcome, adding the club would like to invite everyone to “join in on this fun event and enjoy a free curling lesson on us at Cloverdale Curling.”
The Cloverdale Curling Rink is located at 6150 176th Street.
