A walk commemorating the 12th anniversary of the Declaration of World Peace is set for this weekend at Peace Arch Provincial Park.
Organizers with Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) Canada say the theme of their May 24 Peace Walk is 'Uniting the Americas, Footsteps for Peace.'
"At a time when diplomatic tensions have frayed goodwill between neighbours across the border, this gathering of volunteers, youth, and community leaders highlights a powerful message: peace is a shared responsibility that transcends borders," a news release states.
According to information at hwpl.kr, HWPL is "an international NGO committed to attaining the shared goal of humanity – establishing peace and ceasing wars."
Registered with the Seoul Metropolitan Government of the Republic of Korea, it "is leading an international peace movement with leaders in all walks of life without being limited by national, cultural, or ideological boundaries" and "will continue until sustainable peace is assured for future generations," the site continues.
Peace Arch Provincial Park – located on the South Surrey-Blaine border – is "a historic landmark that stands as a testament to over a century of peace and cooperation between Canada and the United States," the release notes.
"Since 2013, the Declaration of World Peace has inspired global action by connecting people across civil society – governments, faith communities, students, and grassroots organizations – in a common pursuit of peace," it continues.
The Peace Walk, set for 9:30 a.m., is open to everyone, "as we walk in unity, remember our shared history, and call on leadership to uphold the values that bind our nations together."
