A South Surrey intersection is set for a makeover.

The City of Surrey says a roundabout is on its way to Crescent Road and 128 Street to improve traffic flow.

Part of the city's short-term transportation priorities, the estimated cost of the project is $2.6 million, according to a corporate report.

"The roundabout will provide improved access and circulation in the area, including entering and leaving Crescent Beach," reads an emailed statement attributed to the city's engineering department.

"Surrey city council is expected to consider awarding a contract in early 2025, with construction anticipated to be complete in summer 2025."

Signage about the upcoming change has been posted in the area, with the city's website noting the intersection has seen considerable growth in traffic volumes in recent years causing line-ups and traffic delays, especially during peak summer season.

Improvements will include a roundabout to keep traffic flowing, sidewalks and landscaping, the website says, adding that roundabouts reduce the distance pedestrians have to cross while also enhancing safety.
