South Surrey Garden Club set to host annual plant sale

More than 2,000 plants offered at May 3 sale at St. Mark's

Spring has sprung, the grass is riz, and it's a fantastic time to buy plants on the Peninsula.

South Surrey Garden Club holds its annual plant sale on Saturday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to noon at St. Mark's Anglican Church, 12953 20 Ave.

One of the largest plant sales in the Lower Mainland, with more than 2,000 plants for sale, the event features flora of all kinds, all "lovingly cared for by the plant sale’s propagation team," club president Liz Knight said, noting it's the club's 35th anniversary as well.

Sun-loving perennials, shade plants, unique trees, specialty dahlias, vegetable seedlings, and unusual specimen plants will be featured at the sale, Knight said.

Experts will be on hand to help shoppers choose the right plant for even the most difficult spots in their garden, she added.

"Gardeners will also find gently used tools, soil amendments, and gardening gloves for sale," she noted, while a special kids-only Mother’s Day table will have gifts, plants, and pots perfect for mom.

Arrive early for the best selection, Knight encouraged.

A major fundraiser for the club, proceeds from the sale support their monthly speaker series, garden tours, workshops, and a number of other activities. Those interested can join the South Surrey Garden Club right at the plant sale for just $10 and enjoy all of the club activities this spring and summer.
