South Surrey home among top prizes in 'hottest' lottery

16065 9A Ave. prize home opens May 3 for weekend viewings

A home in the heart of the Semiahmoo Peninsula is among 10 grand-prize choices in this year's Hometown Heroes Lottery.

The lottery – first launched in 2003 – supports VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation and the BC Professional Firefighters' Burn Fund.

In addition to South Surrey, prize homes this year are located in Langley, Maple Ridge, Vancouver (two options), Kelowna, Lake Country, Sooke and Courtenay.

The South Surrey abode, at 16065 9A Ave., tops the list in value, as part of a package worth more than $2.6 million. Developed by Red Tree Creative Homes, its 3,953 square feet space includes five bedrooms and a two-bedroom, one-bathroom legal suite, as well are more than $75,000 worth of furnishings.

For those wanting to take a look around, it'll be open for viewings from 11 a.m. till 4 p.m., on Saturdays and Sundays only, from May 3 to June 1. It will also be open on Victoria Day (Monday, May 19).

The other home package choices are close in value – each is worth more than $2.5 million, according to lottery officials. The grand-prize winner also has the option to choose $2.2 million cash.

In total, there are 2,731 prizes to be won in this year’s main lottery, with a value of over $3.2 million. There are also Early Bird prizes, a 50/50 and a Daily Cash game.

Tickets – starting at three for $75 – are slated to be up for grabs until midnight July 10. The proceeds are to support specialized adult health services at VGH, UBC Hospital, GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre, Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute and Vancouver Community Health Services. Burn Fund programs are to also benefit, including the annual Burn Camp for young burn survivors.

If the lottery sells out, the odds of winning a grand prize are one in 503,000.

“Every ticket purchased helps equip our hospitals with cutting-edge technology, supports groundbreaking research, and provides patients with access to new therapies and clinical trials," foundation president and CEO Angela Chapman said in a news release announcing the launch of the 2025 ticket sales.

Burn Fund executive director Jeff Sauvé described the lottery as "a vital source of funding" that supports critical burn survivor care and fire prevention programs across B.C.

"These proceeds enable life-changing initiatives that address both the physical and emotional recovery of burn survivors, helping them rebuild their lives with confidence and support,” Sauvé said.

“Every ticket purchased is a step toward providing burn survivors with the best possible chance for a full recovery, and for that, we are deeply grateful.”

For those who can't visit, all prize home packages are available to view online, at www.heroeslottery.com. Tickets can be purchased through the website, by phone (604-648-4376 or 1-866-597-4376) or in-person at any B.C. London Drugs location.
