Beware the electric golf cart.
Members of the Nico Wynd Mens Golf Club kicked off their spring general meeting as a prelude to the start of the summer season with good-natured humour, teasing a club member's seeming inability to control his electic golf cart.
Mens Golf Club media relations director Ross Ruddick noted in an email that longtime club member Brian Carrigan will "still be compelled to display his 'L' sticker on his electric cart due to a continuation of somewhat erratic driving, such as tipping over in the sand, hitting other golfers and driving into stands of trees."
At the meeting, men's club Saturday captain Graham Roberts highlighted a successful fall and winter season of steady participation, with only about three weeks lost to snow and inclement weather. He announced the top low net winners of winter play as Andre Lesperance (first), president Ted Edwards (second), and Roger Cumming (third).
Roberts reviewed the upcoming season, which will be a mix of stroke play, Stableford, one- and two-man match play, a few team events, the Ryder Cup Style Nico Cup and the addition of one more Tombstone event, Ruddick said.
Combined with the Ace of the Month and Ace of the Year competition and the prestigious two-day Club Championship, the upcoming season will have 36 scheduled events, as well as three nine-and-dines as fun socials.
Membership in the Tuesday seniors group and Saturday group, among other issues, were discussed at the meeting, including the fact there are openings for membership in the Saturday group (Tuesdays are currently at a maximum).
The winter season competition differs from the Saturday group by accumulating points, and the overall winner was Andre Lesperance, Ruddick shared.
