A professional dump-truck driver was hit with a 90-day driving suspension, after officers deemed him impaired during a traffic stop on Highway 1 just outside of Chilliwack.
In addition to his driving suspension, the fully-loaded dump truck will now sit in an impound lot for 30 days, according to a press release sent out Monday by the B.C. Highway Patrol.
A concerned passerby called police just before 9:30 a.m. on April 9, about a dump truck driving dangerously on the highway, in the eastbound lanes near Vedder Road.
"The caller who alerted police did a great job describing the driving behaviour and location of the truck," says Cpl. Michael McLaughlin. "Two B.C. Highway Patrol vehicles intercepted the truck near Popkum Road. We are obviously very concerned whenever a professional dump truck driver makes the decision to drive while impaired."
The dump truck had to be towed to the impound lot by a heavy-duty tow truck. Police said the Abbotsford company that owns the truck will be responsible for the towing and impound costs.
"The driver, a 64-year-old Abbotsford man, has been served a 90-day driving prohibition and had to be driven home by his wife," the release stated.
