The NDP's handling of Surrey's policing transition was an 'egregious mockery of democracy,' this writer says.

Editor,

The November 2024 column by Frank Bucholtz on the status of Surrey policing really nails the highly questionable status of policing in Surrey.

While Mr. Bose is right to state that Mike Farnworth “acted in bad faith," that act can be extended to NDP leadership, meaning the late John Horgan and the present David Eby.  As premiers, they allowed Farnworth to dither for five years before rendering a decision to support one individual, that’s McCallum, ignoring the efforts of so many reasonably asking for a referendum.

And let’s not forgot the negative effect this is having on the RCMP members who have faithfully served Surrey and now are faced with the disruption for them and their families.

All in all, the NDP's handling of this matter is an egregious mockery of democracy.
