Editor,

re: John Rustad interview with Black Press.

In his Jan. 23 interview with Wolf Depner, John Rustad insists that Canada should avoid a trade war with the U.S. because “we would get our butts kicked."

Probably the only way to avoid such a war would be to give in to all or most of Trump’s outrageous demands.

Rustad said, “I can understand why Trump says Canada is difficult to work with.” He said that he is not arguing that the United States is looking to punish Canada because it is pursuing different social policies. Then he criticized Canadian policies of wokeism and environmentalism. We must decide on social policies ourselves, and not let some arrogant bully decide for us.

I wish that Rustad, or anyone criticizing "wokeism," would describe exactly what they mean by that term, and explain how it weakens our society.

As for complaining about our debt, Rustad should do some research, and see how our debt to GDP ratio compares to that of the U.S.!
