Editor,

Re: Surrey council delays 8% pay raise vote

Surrey city council members are considering salary increases for themselves based on what other Lower Mainland councils pay. This is a formula for ever-increasing remuneration.

It would be better to equate their earnings with the average wage of a Surrey worker who, incidentally, struggles to pay ever increasing municipal taxes.

Peter Ferris, Surrey

Editor's note: The proposed council pay raise was not discussed at the Jan. 13 council meeting as originally expected. A report on council remuneration is expected to be brought back to a future council meeting in the first quarter of 2025.
