The Canadian Association of Physicians of Indian Heritage (CAIPH) has recognized Dr. Arun Kumar Garg with the CAIPH Lifetime Achievement Award at the recent Canada India Networking Initiative (CINI) 2014 Conference.

The CAIPH Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes and celebrates outstanding contributions by individuals who have led the South Asian community forward and paved the way for new industry talent.

"Dr. Garg has been a tireless champion of South Asian Health both in Canada and in India," said CAPIH President Sunil V. Patel. "We wish him ongoing success going forward.”

"I’m exceptionally honoured to receive this Lifetime Achievement Award, in no small part on account of distinguished names of those who received the award before me,” said Dr. Garg, Chair of CINI 2014 and Canada India Network Society.  “I hope this award shines a light on the exemplary work being done within South Asian Health in both Canada and India, which has been a source of inspiration and the greatest, most rewarding challenge I could have asked for.”

Dr. Garg received a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biochemistry in 1970 from University of Saskatchewan and then graduated from the University of British Columbia medical school in 1977.

He received his Fellowship from Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in 1980 and was made a Fellow of the American College of Pathologists (FACP) and American Society of Clinical Pathologists (FASCP).

Throughout his career Dr. Garg has been active in countless volunteer and community organizations. Most notably, the Canada India Networking Initiative Conferences in 2010 and 2014 where South Asian Health memorandums of understandings were signed with strategic stakeholders such as Fraser Health, IC-Impact, the City of Surrey, Innovation Boulevard, and SANSAR.
