Nearly 150 former students and staff gathered at Burnsview Secondary for the school’s 40th anniversary last Friday.

Former teachers and students filled the gymnasium at Burnsview Secondary Friday night to celebrate the school’s 40th anniversary in North Delta and to walk down memory lane.

Nearly 150 former students of the school spent the evening reminiscing with old classmates about their time at the school.

Also on the agenda was the opening of a time capsule that was placed inside a wall by a group of writing students in 1992.

The students at the time took on a project to make a time capsule filled with letters and artifacts from various city officials and politicians – all written to the class to 2012.

Linda Hydamaka, who attended the school from 1973 to 1976, remembered her time at Burnsview as a fun and exciting time in her life.

“We wanted to go on the rugby trip with the boys to Kelowna, so we organized a cheerleading team just so we could go,” said Hydamaka.

“We snuck into the boys’ room... it was a lot of fun.”

The night also featured a slideshow of photos from the 1970s to present day, as well as memorabilia displays and a message board to post stories and memories.
