Walnut Road Elementary has won Surrey’s 2012-13 Climate Change Showdown.
The city-wide elementary school contest involved students in a board game and workshops designed to educate students about sustainability and climate change solutions.
“I am very proud of my students for taking the time to make positive changes at home to conserve energy,” said Manpreet Sanghara, teacher of the winning Grade 5/6 class at Walnut Road.
The class with its 29 students were competing against eight other Surrey elementary schools, which collectively reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by over 370 tonnes.
