Children from nearby elementary schools laced up for the opening day of Robson Square Ice Rink's winter season in downtown Vancouver.
The ice rink – Vancouver's version of Rockefeller Center – has grown considerably since coming to widespread international attention in 2010, during the city's Winter Olympics. Last year, Robson's ice rink welcome over 82,000 people to the plaza, including 5,050 students who went for a skate.
(*During the 2010 Games, Vancouver's Robson Square welcomed 1,500,00 million visitors, and the area also hosted a zip line and concerts.)
Skating is free with your own skates. The rink will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
