Matthew Li, a Grade 8 student at Fraser Heights Secondary, has won the Postmedia Canspell regional spelling bee.
Correctly spelling “apocalypse” for his trophy, the 13-year-old, in his third year at the competition, won $5,000 and a trip to the Postmedia Canspell National Bee in Toronto on March 27.
The winner of the national event will compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. June 1-2.
