Four secondary students and three elementary students from Surrey will compete in the 2011 Postmedia Canspell Vancouver Sun Regional Spelling Bee in Vancouver March 5.
The secondary students are Bella Smith (Elgin Park), Matthew Li (Fraser Heights), Letizia Dotto (Lord Tweedsmuir) and Wendy Hu (Queen Elizabeth). Joining them are elementary students Justin Cruz (Cambridge), Henry Tusi (Holly) and Ashleigh Atkinson (Surrey Centre).
The seven Surrey students will compete against 43 of their peers from across the Lower Mainland for a $5,000 Canspell Education Award and a chance to win the Postmedia Canspell national spelling bee in Toronto in March.
The top three finishers in the national bee will then go on to vie for top prize in the prestigious Scripps National Bee in Washington, D.C. June 1 and 2.
