Surrey Board of Trade is busy this fall with awards and other events including the 18th annual Surrey Environment and Business Awards, which saluted Wellons Canada and Greenwave Recycling for "exceptional dedication to environmental leadership and/or issues" on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
Looking ahead to the 2024 Surrey Business Excellence Awards on Nov. 7, finalists have been announced in seven categories for an Academy Awards-style gala at Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel. Tickets are sold for $150 each, or $175 for non-members of SBOT.
Finalists for Business Person of the Year are David Balfour (Clayton Heights Sports and Therapy Center), Harp Khela (Harp Khela Real Estate Group) and Joshua Gaglardi (Orion Construction).
In three categories, nominees for Business Excellence are Onex Enterprises, Surrey Kids Physio Group, West Coast Centre for Learning (1-10 employees category); City Wide Produce, Physiostation and Sports Injury Clinic and ThoughtsWin Systems (11-40 employees), and Crown Building Supplies, Pacific Customs Brokers and PW Trenchless Construction (41+ employees).
Not-for-Profit/Association of the Year nominees are Options Community Services Society, Peace Arch Hospice Society and The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver.
In the New Business of the Year category, Arora Zbar LLP, HarmonyCare Family Practice and Mishe Optometry are nominated.
In the running for Young Entrepreneur of the Year are CG Singh (Glen Group), Jasmine Bird (SOAR Counselling) and Samson Ngo (Sang Media).
Also, a Corporate Social Responsibility Award will be given at Surrey Business Excellence Awards, presented by DP World Canada, TD Bank and Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.
On Sept. 24, the Surrey Environment and Business Awards event involved a panel discussion on renewable energy and awards in two categories.
Large Business award-winner Wellons Canada wascalled "a leader in designing energy systems and lumber drying solutions, specializing in biomass energy and cogeneration for the forestry sector. They have pioneered an innovative on-site water treatment system for lumber kilns, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions and operational costs."
Small Business award-winner Greenwave Recycling is said to be "committed to post-industrial waste recycling, transforming surplus materials into reusable resources to reduce the environmental impact of industries across B.C. The company collects plastic and paper waste from various sectors, extracting valuable materials to minimize landfill use and promote sustainable waste management."
