A new flagship branch of Community Savings credit union has reopened in Surrey following extensive renovations.

In Newton, improvements at #900-7380 King George Boulevard include upgraded accessibility features, new spaces for expanded financial services and a mural by a local artist showcasing "community spirit," according to a news release from Yulu Impact Communications.

Jag Nagra's 28-foot mural, located behind teller desks, "highlights the diverse range of people and their contributions to Surrey and Newton including students, elders, small business owners and labourers," the artist says. "This kind of multi-generational representation is so important—it ensures that members feel seen, valued and represented.”

Coinciding with Community Savings’ 80-year anniversary in B.C., the credit union is celebrating more than 30 years of service in Surrey. Branches are also located in New Westminster, Port Coquitlam, Burnaby, Richmond, Vancouver and Victoria.

"The Surrey branch has played an active role in the community, from donating to the Surrey Food Bank for 3 years, being a lead sponsor of Surrey Pride since 2021 to actively engaging with Surrey Board of Trade and Newton BIA," the news release notes.

Anjali Murray manages the Surrey branch.

“I’ve had the privilege of hearing countless stories from our members, many of whom have been with Community Savings for decades," Murray stated. "They often tell us, ‘This is my branch,’ because they feel a personal connection to the team and trust the support we provide. We’ve helped members who couldn’t find service anywhere else, and that’s something we take immense pride in. Our history in Surrey reflects our deep commitment to this community, and I’m excited to see how we’ll continue to grow together in the years to come.”
