'Carnage in Cloverdale' pro wrestling event coming to 'best venue in Surrey'

Last February, ASW returned to Alice McKay Building for the first time in 5 years

Pro wrestling returns to Alice McKay Building on Saturday, Nov. 23, for a night of "Carnage in Cloverdale."

Show time is 7:30 p.m. for the All Star Wrestling event at 6050 176 St., Surrey.

"Carnage descends upon the Alice McKay Building as ASW returns to the mecca of pro wrestling in the Pacific Northwest," says a post on vtixonline.com, where tickets are sold for $15 and up. Front-row seats have all been reserved, as of Thursday, Nov. 14.

A cartoon-inspired hype video is posted to the ASW Canada channel on the X social media platform.

Promised at the family-friendly event is a four-tagteam "Money in the Bank" match, with several spandex-clad in the ring. Also featured will be a six-man battle, a "Keys to the Vault" match, a "Saigon Street Fight," a four-way battle and much more.

Last February, in a "New Blood" event, All Star returned to Alice McKay Building for the first time in five years, according to promo boss Parm Singh Athwal, a Surrey electrician who wrestles as The Thunder from Jalandhar.

“That’s where it all began, at the best venue in Surrey,” Athwal raved at the time. “It has the history. We tried Sulivan Hall (in 2022) but Alice McKay, it feels like home and wrestling fans want it, everybody does.”

All Star, or ASW, has been a B.C. wrestling fixture dating back to the 1970s, when matches were televised locally, from BCTV studios in Burnaby. The promo evolved over the years to deliver only in-person displays of bear hugs and sleeper holds, including wrestling events at Cloverdale Fairgrounds in years prior to the pandemic.

On Sept. 26, it was a "Rumble" to remember at Panorama Ridge Secondary, where close to $2,400 was raised for the school wrestling team. A second Rumble at the Ridge fundraiser saw pro wrestling fans gather in the Surrey gym for a Thursday night of entertainment organized by teacher and wrestling team coach Joseph Beland, who moonlights as wrestler Joe Funk at All Star Wrestling events.
