On a Surrey stage this weekend, three comic monologues will explore revenge, blackmail, sex, money, jealousy, justice and murder.

Surrey-based Naked Stage Productions brings a reading of Jeffery Hatcher's Murderers to Newton Cultural Centre, Friday to Sunday (April 25-27).

"Performed separately, the tales depict desperate passions, old wounds and cold calculations that intersect in the sun-drenched world of The Riddle Key Luxury Retirement Village in Florida," says a post on the company's website, where tickets are sold for evening and afternoon shows.

"Each story is a cat-and-mouse mystery featuring culprits who tell how they decided to commit the perfect crime and what tripped them up along the way."

The actors are Michael Neale, Nancy Ebert and Tracy Labrosse.

Traditionally, reader's theatre relies on exceptional acting from those who convey stories without the benefit of grand sets, movement on stage and helpful props. With Murderers, the script challenges the three actors to deliver a story on their own, in monologues.

Bridget Browning calls Murderers a clever black comedy with surprise twists and turns.

"It’s about illicit love, a diabolical plan and an avenging angel," Browning says. "There’s no point wondering whodunit – you will find that out right off the bat. The fun is finding out how they’ve done what they have done and why."

Show times are 7:30 on both Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Meantime, auditions are Saturday (April 26) for Naked Stage Productions' final show of this season, Take Down the Letters. "We are fully booked for those interested in the role of Starshine, however we still have a few slots open for those female actors who may be interested in auditioning for the role of Lynn," the company says in an email. "The deadline to request an audition slot is this Thursday. For all the details, please visit: https://www.nspsociety.com/auditions."
