Surrey artists nominated for JUNO Awards didn't go home with any hardware Sunday (March 30), but the city did get a big shout-out from the stage.
After performing with fellow nominees Chani Nattan and Inderpal Moga, Jazzy B took a kick at the camera and shouted, "C'mon, make some noise. From Surrey to the world, this is the Junos!"
It was a colourful, electrifying moment during CBC's live JUNOS broadcast from Rogers Arena, where fans and the music industry gathered for the annual awards night.
Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke recorded Jazzy B's TV moment and posted the video to Facebook. "The three of you together stole the show," she posted.
Nattan, Moga and Jazzy B were finalists for the inaugural South Asian Music Recording of the Year Award (for their "Coolin" collaboration), but the award went to AP Dhillon's "The Brownprint."
Likewise, Surrey's Tyler Joe Miller was nominated for Country Album of the Year with "Going Home," but Josh Ross won with "Complicated."
Pop crooner Michael Bublé hosted the festivities Sunday, two weeks after Surrey hosted a JUNOS-themed music festival at Surrey Civic Plaza.
The full list of award-winners is posted on junoawards.ca.
