Summer is just starting, yet a pre-Christmas production of The Nutcracker is already being hyped in Surrey.
Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet will bring a touring production of the dreamlike dance show to Bell Performing Arts Centre on the weekend of Nov. 23-24, dates presented by Ballet BC.
Tickets and show details are found on the theatre's website and also rwb.org, home to one of North America's most historic dance companies, roots of which date back to 1939.
"B.C.’s only professional version of the wintertime classic is danced to a majestic and instantly recognizable Tchaikovsky score," the company's website says.
"Follow the adventures of Clara, her Nutcracker Prince, the Sugar Plum Fairy and more whimsical characters as they discover the magic of a distinctly Canadian holiday season. A timeless tradition for all ages."
The tour will include shows in Surrey, Vancouver, Nanaimo and Victoria. At the Bell in Sullivan Heights, The Nutcracker will be performed three times in November, at 1 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets start at $48 and rise to $150.
Last December, New Westminster-based Royal City Youth Ballet returned to Surrey Arts Centre with four daytime performances of The Nutcracker as part of an annual tour of the region. The company website advertises 2024-25 auditions, for dancers aged six to 18, on Sunday, June 23.
