Surrey RCMP say a shooting in Newton early this morning (July 10) is believed to be targeted.

A man known to police is recovering from minor injuries after being shot at a home in Newton early Wednesday morning.

Just after midnight, before 12:30 a.m. on July 10, Surrey RCMP received reports of the sound of gunfire on 127 Street and 66 Avenue, a press release states.

Soon after canvassing the location, police received a call from Surrey Memorial Hospital about a patient who admitted to being shot. Evidence gathered has lead RCMP to believe that a shooting took place in the driveway of the home, with a vehicle also affected by gunfire.

"Police believe this was a targeted incident as the victim is also known to police. The victim has been uncooperative with investigators and sustained very minor injuries," the release from Cpl. Sarbjit Sangha further states.

Still under investigation, police are appealing for more information and CCTV footage of the area from the time of the crime, with individuals encouraged to call the detachment at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 2024-100183.
