The Surrey Festival of Dance in April led to provincial competition in June for some of the award-winning dancers including Olivia Butler (Junior Ballet), Kylie Seargeant (Senior Ballet) and Luisa Lo Prete (Intermediate Modern).
The year the Surrey festival sent 18 participants to the Performing Arts BC (PABC) provincial competition, held in Victoria from June 1-5.
In addition to the three competition winners noted above, Ava Heales was runner-up in Senior Ballet, and honourable mentions went to Daenah Misa (Junior Stage), Indie Kerr (Intermediate Stage) and Brooklyn Turner (Intermediate Ballet).
In Virtual Group Dance, Dance Odessey won Class 200-Grace, and Stare earned an honourable mention in Class 400-Power.
The Surrey festival reps at provincials were Ballet dancers Ava Heales, Kylie Sergeant, Victoria Russo, Brooklyn Turner, Olivia Butler and Abigail Wong, Jazz dancers Ryen Wise, Page Seitz and Daenah Misa, Tap & Stage dancers Isabella Cossalter, Indie Kerr and Imogen Ellegood, and Modern/Contemporary dancers Sienna Knott, Anika McGill, Yuna Li, Luisa Lo Prete and Genevieve D’Entremont.
Runners-up were Penelope Werdal, Emma Chan and Yumo Wang in Ballet, Danica Howieson, Cora Schellenberg and Narissa Tsai in Jazz, Sonja Perperidis and Atisa Pun in Modern/Contemporary, and Seaera Smith and Addie Varney in Tap & Stage.
Celebrating its 59th year, the 2025 Surrey Festival of Dance was held at Surrey Arts Centre from April 2 to 24.
Established in 1964, Performing Arts BC (formerly BC Association of Performing Arts Festivals) is a not-for-profit charity and umbrella organization for 34 local/regional performing arts festivals throughout the province.
