What you should know about Surrey-Guildford
The Surrey-Guildford riding has been held by Garry Begg and the BC New Democratic Party since 2017.
Surrey-Guildford takes in a large part of what used to be Surrey-Tynehead, a provincial riding that had been held by the B.C. Liberals since Dave Hayer was first elected in 2001, and then re-elected in 2005 and 2009.
In 2020, Begg won with 60.59 per cent of the vote against Liberal candidate Dave Hans, who got 29.93 percent.
In contrast, in the 2017 election, Begg won by a slimmer margin of just over 2,000 votes, when he received 49.85 per cent of the votes compared to Liberal candidate Amrik Virk, who got 37.76 per cent.
Where is Surrey-Guildford?
The riding's electoral boundaries were extended for the 2024 provincial election to include Port Kells, which would keep communities on the south bank of the Fraser River together.
Surrey-Guildford contains the Fraser River south bank neighbourhoods of Port Mann, Fraser Heights, Tynehead, Annidale, Port Kells and Guildford’s town centre. Its southern boundary is 88th Avenue, and its northern boundary follows the Fraser River, 106th and 108th Avenues. Its eastern boundary is the municipal border of Langley, and its western boundary follows secondary roads and Bon Accord Creek.
The population of Surrey-Guildford is 60,783, according to the 2021 Stats Canada census.
