A 17-year-old boy has been charged with two counts each of assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm connected to the stabbing of two men in the 6000-block of 130A Street in Newton on Sept. 11.

The suspect's name cannot be published as his identity is shielded by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Surrey RCMP Cpl. Sarbjit Sangha said he is being held in custody pending a court appearance.

"The second suspect, an adult male, was released from custody without charges," she added. Police had responded to a report of a fight at about 4:30 p.m on Sept. 11. Both were arrested on Sept. 13.

The victims sustained injuries that weren't considered to be life threatening.
