For teen girls, an "empowering and inspiring day" is promised at the 2025 Dream It, Be It conference, Feb. 8 at the KPU Surrey campus in Newton.
Admission is free at the interactive annual event, presented by Soroptimist International of Surrey/Delta and White Rock. Lunch is provided along with door prizes, activities and more.
"We have over 55 amazing women and girls as mentors in our career, education, resource and volunteer fair," said Darlene Jamieson, conference co-chair.
Teen girls are invited along with "anyone identifying as a woman, transgender or non-binary."
Registration is done on soroptimistsurrey-delta.org, which includes mentor bios/photos.
"We currently have just over 100 youth and adult participants, mentors and volunteers," Jamieson added. "Our goal is 100 youth (registered)."
KPU will award a $1,000 tuition certificate for qualifying attendees aged 16 to 18 years. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 12666 72 Ave.
Dream It, Be It is a program of Soroptimist and its online community LiveYourDream.org, "which work to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment," the conference website says.
The name "Soroptimist" was coined by combining the Latin words soror (sister) and optima (best), "and can be taken to mean 'best for women,'" Jamieson noted.
