Police in Surrey are investigating after two men were assaulted, leaving one in hospital still with "life-threatening injuries."

Witnesses are being sought for an alleged aggravated assault of two men that has left one in hospital fighting for his life with serious injuries.

Shortly after midnight on Sunday (Sept. 8), police responded to a report of a "disturbance" at a park near 120 Street and 70 Avenue. Two men who police say were assaulted were found at the location, one 18, the other, 22 years old.

The former victim was taken to hospital and has since been released, but the latter remains in hospital and is being treated for life-threatening injuries, a Surrey RCMP release states.

“Police believe that someone must have seen or heard something suspicious around the time of this incident," Surrey RCMP Const. Parmbir Kahlon said.

RCMP's General Investigation Unit is investigating the assault and is canvassing the area for CCTV footage.

Police are appealing to the public for witnesses who were in the area of the incident between midnight and 1 a.m. on Sunday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 2024-132124.
