Surrey driver charged in crash that killed 2 Maple Ridge women

Crash happened on the side of Highway 1 in Burnaby near the Sprott Street exit

A Surrey man has been charged in connection with a late-night crash in February 2024 that left two Maple Ridge women dead and three other people seriously injured.

Two women died and two women were left critically injured after the Uber car they were riding home in was hit by an SUV. A man from Surrey was also injured in the crash. The crash happened on Feb. 18, 2024 at about 3 a.m. in Burnaby, on Highway 1, near the Sprott Street off-ramp.

Police reported they were travelling eastbound, and the Uber driver pulled over and stopped the Tesla on the side of the highway. An SUV, also eastbound, then struck the parked car.

The driver of the second vehicle was released from the scene with minor injuries.

Jennifer Miller, the mother of one of the injured women, created an online fundraiser after the crash.

She told the story in a post on GoFundMe.com.

“Yesterday my world drastically changed. I woke up to a phone call at 3:30 a.m. that my daughter and her best friends (the 4 musketeers) were involved in an accident on Highway 1,” she said.

Her daughter’s injuries were the least serious.

"They were out for a night on the town for one of their 21 birthdays and took an Uber home. They never made it,"  she said. "All four of these families were a family, all of us mothers loved those girls like they were our own. The girls had plans of moving in together just to afford rent, going to college in Vancouver, the had goals, dreams..... and now they are going to have to learn a new reality."

She started the online fundraiser to help the girls meet their financial obligations during recovery.

Chi Sun Park, 35, has been charged with:
