Surrey-based Westland Insurance is continuing its "growth journey" across Canada by acquiring Youngs Insurance Brokers’ West Burlington operation, a P&C brokerage (property and casualty insurance) in the Toronto area for 20-plus years.
The deal closed Feb. 21, according to a news release sent four days later.
Then on March 6, Westland announced its acquisition of Saskatchewan-based Loewen Agencies Ltd., a company that since 1947 has served the prairie towns of Radville, Ceylon and Minton with coverage for properties, vehicles, businesses and farm insurance.
Among Canada’s fastest-growing insurance brokers, Westland has 369 employees headquartered at 9850 King George Blvd., with a total of 1,512 employees at locations across B.C. including three other branches in Surrey. Across Canada, Westland now has more than 300 locations and 3,000 employees.
With the acquisition of Youngs Insurance Brokers West Burlington operation, Westland "deepens its roots in Ontario, a province that is strategically important as the brokerage continues expanding across Canada," according to the release.
“As we continue our growth journey across Canada," said Jamie Lyons, Westland president and CEO, "we feel privileged to partner with a brokerage with such a long and rich insurance history."
Founded in 1980 by Jeff Wubs in Ladner, Westland aims to "invest in and grow its business in Canada, both organically and through strategic acquisitions."
