Volunteer, honourable mention
Evelyn Wedley is a third-generation Surreyite with a passion for the history of the area.
Wedley comes from a family of volunteers, with parents and grandparents who were always involved in the community.
"I cannot remember a time when my parents and my grandmothers were not involved in the community, so I guess it's a case of following in their footsteps," Wedley said. "Also, I was a CGA and part of that culture was volunteering in the local community. I graduated in 1987 and have been involved in one organization or another since then, be it my kids schools or sports or other community organizations."
Wedley is an active volunteer with the Lord Tweedsmuir Alumni Association, serving as its treasurer, and she also serves as president of the Surrey Historical Society.
In the words of her nominator: “From grant applications to putting countless hours into projects, Evelyn's efforts have helped make the Surrey Historical Society a vibrant and valuable entity.”
Wedley said she's "honoured and humbled" to be nominated.
"I feel I have gotten as much out of my volunteering as I have put in," she said. "I do not do it for recognition but like to make a difference where I can."
