Surrey RCMP announce major drug seizure from 2023

Surrey RCMP Drug Unit with the assistance of Surrey RCMP Gang Enforcement Team, Surrey RCMP Property Crime Target Team and New Westminster Police Gang Unit executed search warrants in the 600-block of Eighth Street in New Westminster and in the 160-block of Lucas Court in Coquitlam on Aug. 22, 2023.

An investigation led police in Surrey to seize 23 kilograms of ecstasy and other illicit drugs in August 2023. 

Surrey RCMP issued a press release about the seizure today (Friday, Oct. 4). Cpl. Sarbjit Sangha told the Surrey Now-Leader there is a reason this news release is coming out over a year later.

"Sometimes, we have to hold off on the information because there are other ongoing investigations that would be jeopardized if we had put something out at that time when we did the search warrant," she said. 

In the news release, police stated the Surrey RCMP Drug Unit started investing in an alleged drug trafficking network in June 2023. Police stated that the network "allegedly supplied bulk amounts of illicit drugs to drug traffickers in several Greater Vancouver cities."

Surrey RCMP Drug Unit, with the assistance of Surrey RCMP Gang Enforcement Team, Surrey RCMP Property Crime Target Team and New Westminster Police Gang Unit, executed search warrants in the 600-block of Eighth Street in New Westminster and in the 160-block of Lucas Court in Coquitlam on Aug. 22, 2023.

One person was arrested and released pending investigation. Police also seized 500 grams of cocaine, 92 tabs of methylphenidate (also knowns as Ritalin), 60 tablets of amphetamine, 244 grams of fentanyl, 72 grams of fentanyl (Fentanyl/Flurofentanyl/Bromalazam/Xylazine/Caffeine), 272 grams of fentanyl tablets, 63 tablets of counterfeit hydromorphone tablets fentanyl, 156 tablets of Oxycodone, 27 tablets of counterfeit oxycodone, 32 tablets of prescription alprazolam and 21 tablets of tadalafil (Cialis). 

"Investigations such as this are often helped by information from concerned community members. We ask that public continue to be our eyes and ears to help disrupt drug trafficking operations in their neighbourhoods," Sangha said. 

The investigation is ongoing, and police are working on a report to submit to Crown Counsel recommending charges.
