Interested residents will have a chance to purchase trees online through the city of Surrey next week.
"Planting a tree is an investment in our community and our future,” Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke said in a release.
"I am excited to continue offering Surrey residents the chance to purchase affordable, high-quality trees for planting on their private property. The trees sell out quickly, so mark your calendar to avoid missing out. Every tree we plant today is a step forward to a greener and more vibrant Surrey of tomorrow.”
The city's director of parks Neal Aven shared with Peace Arch News that trees typically sell out within the first 24 hours of the sale.
Each tree, available during the online sale from Aug. 21 to Sept. 4, are priced at $20 and can be purchased online at surrey.ca/treesale
All purchased plants can be picked up on Sept. 15 from the Surrey Operations Centre at 6651 148 St., with the final tree sale happening Sept. 25 to Oct. 9, and available to pickup on Oct. 20. Up to 1,000 trees will be available for interested buyers at each sale.
With four tree sales a year, the city of Surrey event is offered on a first-come first-serve basis with different types available, including dogwood, maple, fruit trees and more.
The most popular trees are often the different fruit trees, dogwood and magnolias, Aven added.
Only Surrey residents are able to make a purchase. Each tree on sale is between five to 12 feet tall and come in three- or five-gallon pots and are two to three centimetres in caliper size.
