A woman is recovering in hospital after being the target of a stabbing that left her unconscious early Sunday morning.
Police in Surrey responded to calls of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle just after 2 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 8) on 108 Avenue and King George Boulevard. A 40-year-old woman who was breathing but unconscious, with stab wounds and wearing blood-covered clothing, was located by police, Surrey RCMP reported to Peace Arch News.
"Per initial investigation, police discovered that the female was not involved in a motor vehicle accident but a victim of a stabbing," RCMP state.
A possible suspect of the stabbing was arrested and taken into custody, while the victim was taken to hospital, where she remains with what police now describe as life-threatening injuries.
Jennifer Kipp, 36, has been charged with assault with a weapon and aggravated assault, a release from Surrey RCMP states.
Police say the stabbing was targeted and there remains no risk to the public.
Kipp has been remanded until her next scheduled appearance at Surrey Provincial Court on Friday, Sept. 13, according to the court services online.
